SoulMate AI ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application ("App") and related services.
Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the App.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Personal Information:
- Email address (used for account creation and authentication)
- Display name (chosen by you)
- Account credentials (passwords are securely hashed and never stored in plain text)
- Profile photo (if you choose to upload one)
1.2 Conversation Data:
- Chat messages you send within the App
- AI-generated responses in your conversations
- Character preferences and interaction history
- Conversation metadata (timestamps, message counts)
1.3 AI Memory & Profile Data:
To provide a more personalized and coherent experience, we use AI technology to process your conversation data and create the following:
- Conversation Summaries: Periodic AI-generated summaries of your past conversations to maintain context across long interactions
- User Profile Facts: AI-extracted information about your preferences, interests, and conversation topics (e.g., "likes hiking", "has a pet dog") to personalize future interactions
This data constitutes automated profiling as defined under GDPR Article 22. You have the right to opt out of this profiling at any time (see Section 8: Your Rights).
1.4 Subscription & Transaction Data:
- Subscription status and plan type
- Purchase history and billing period
- We do not directly handle or store your payment card information — all transactions are processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play)
1.5 Device & Technical Information:
- Device type and operating system version
- App version
- Crash logs and performance diagnostics
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
- Service Delivery: Provide, maintain, and improve the App's AI companion experience
- Account Management: Create, authenticate, and manage your account
- AI Response Generation: Process your messages through AI models to generate personalized character responses
- AI Memory & Personalization: Generate conversation summaries and extract user profile facts to improve conversation quality and continuity over time
- Content Safety: Apply automated content filters to detect and block harmful, abusive, or illegal content in AI outputs
- Subscription Processing: Manage your subscription status and premium features
- Service Communications: Send important notifications about your account or the service
- Analytics & Improvement: Analyze anonymized usage patterns to improve user experience and AI quality
- Safety & Security: Detect, prevent, and address technical issues and enforce our Terms of Service
3. AI-Generated Content & Third-Party AI Processing
3.1 Nature of AI Content:
All conversations in SoulMate AI are with artificial intelligence characters, not real people. All AI-generated messages are clearly identified as such within the App. The developer (SoulMate AI) assumes full responsibility for the safety and appropriateness of all AI-generated content displayed to users.
3.2 How Your Messages Are Processed:
When you send a message, it is transmitted to third-party AI service providers (large language model API providers) for the sole purpose of generating an AI character response. By using the chat feature, you explicitly consent to this data processing. Specifically:
- Only the conversation context (your messages, prior AI responses, conversation summaries, and extracted user profile facts) necessary to generate a reply is sent to the AI provider
- Your email address, account credentials, payment information, and device identifiers are never shared with AI providers
- AI providers are contractually obligated to protect your data, not retain it beyond the processing request, and not use it for their own training purposes
- AI processing may occur on servers located in the United States or other countries outside your country of residence
- We select AI providers that maintain industry-standard security certifications (SOC 2, ISO 27001, or equivalent)
3.3 AI Memory Processing:
Periodically, your conversation data is processed by AI to:
- Generate conversation summaries: Older messages are compressed into summaries so the AI can maintain context without retaining all individual messages
- Extract user profile facts: The AI identifies key preferences and facts about you from your conversations to personalize future interactions
These memory features are designed to improve your experience. You may request deletion of AI memory data at any time (see Section 8: Your Rights).
3.4 AI Content Moderation:
We employ multiple layers of content safety measures:
- Automated real-time content filters that detect and block harmful, abusive, illegal, sexually explicit, or otherwise inappropriate content
- AI safety prompts that instruct the AI to refuse generating prohibited content categories
- Regular review and improvement of filtering systems based on user reports and feedback
- Human review processes for escalated content reports
3.5 Important Disclaimers:
We do not use your conversations to train AI models without your explicit consent. AI-generated responses may be inaccurate, inappropriate, or misleading, and should not be relied upon as professional advice of any kind.
4. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We may share your information only in the following limited circumstances:
- AI Service Providers: Your conversation context (messages, summaries, profile facts) is sent to third-party AI providers solely for generating chat responses. No personally identifiable information beyond message content is shared
- Payment Processors: Apple (App Store) and Google (Google Play) process subscription transactions. We do not directly handle or store your payment card information
- Analytics: We may use anonymized, aggregated analytics to improve the App. No personally identifiable information is shared with analytics providers
- Legal Requirements: When required by law, legal process, or government request
- Safety: To protect the rights, property, or safety of our users or others
- Business Transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets (with prior notice to users)
5. Data Retention and Deletion
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services.
- Chat messages are retained as part of your conversation history for the duration of your account
- Conversation summaries are retained to maintain AI conversation continuity
- User profile facts are retained to personalize your experience
- Profile photos are retained until you replace them or delete your account
Account Deletion: You may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time through:
Deletion Timeline: Upon receiving a deletion request, your account will be deactivated immediately. All associated personal data — including conversations, AI memory data (summaries and profile facts), profile photos, characters, and profile information — will be permanently deleted within 30 days. Encrypted backup copies may take up to 90 days to be fully purged.
Data We May Retain: We may retain anonymized, aggregated data that cannot identify you, and minimal records required by applicable law (such as transaction records for tax compliance).
6. Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information, including:
- Encryption of data in transit (TLS/SSL)
- Secure password hashing (bcrypt)
- Access controls and authentication for our systems
- Secure storage of profile photos on access-controlled servers
- Regular security assessments
However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Automated Decision-Making and Profiling
SoulMate AI uses automated processing, including profiling, in the following ways:
- AI Response Generation: Your messages are automatically processed by AI to generate character responses. No human reviews individual conversations in real-time
- AI Memory Profiling: The App automatically extracts and stores facts about your preferences and interests from conversations to personalize future interactions. This constitutes automated profiling under GDPR Article 22
- Content Filtering: Automated systems scan AI-generated content for potentially harmful, abusive, or prohibited material before it is displayed to you
These automated processes do not produce legal effects or similarly significant effects on you. They are used solely to enhance your conversational experience and maintain content safety. You have the right to:
- Request human review of any AI-generated content by reporting it through the in-app reporting feature or by contacting support@soulmate-ai.com
- Object to AI profiling and request deletion of your AI memory data
- Receive an explanation of how the profiling system works
8. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you, including AI memory data
- Correction: Request correction of inaccurate information
- Deletion: Request deletion of your account and all associated data, including AI memory data
- Data Portability: Request a machine-readable copy of your data
- Opt Out of AI Profiling: Request that we stop extracting and storing user profile facts from your conversations. Contact us to disable AI memory features for your account
- Opt Out of Communications: Opt out of promotional communications
- Restriction: Request restriction of processing of your data
- Objection: Object to processing of your data for certain purposes, including AI-based profiling
- Human Review: Request human review of AI-generated content or automated decisions that affect you
- Withdraw Consent: You may withdraw your consent to data processing at any time by deleting your account through the App (Settings > Delete Account) or by contacting us. Withdrawal of consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing performed before the withdrawal

9. Advertising, Tracking & Cookies
SoulMate AI is committed to respecting your privacy:
- We do not display third-party advertisements in the App
- We do not use Apple's IDFA (Identifier for Advertisers) or Google's Advertising ID to track you
- We do not participate in cross-app or cross-site tracking
- We do not sell, share, or transfer your data to data brokers or advertisers
- We do not use cookies on our website for tracking purposes; any cookies used are strictly necessary for website functionality
If Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework prompts you for permission, you may safely deny it — our App does not require tracking permissions to function.

11. California Residents (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA):
- Right to Know: You can request details about the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you, including AI-generated profile data
- Right to Delete: You can request deletion of your personal information, including all AI memory data
- Right to Correct: You can request correction of inaccurate personal information
- Right to Opt-Out of Sale: We do not sell your personal information. If this changes, we will provide a "Do Not Sell My Personal Information" link
- Right to Limit Use of Sensitive Personal Information: You can request that we limit the use of sensitive information to what is necessary to provide the service
- Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising your CCPA/CPRA rights

12. European Residents (GDPR)
If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):
- Legal Basis: We process your data based on: (a) your consent (for AI memory profiling and data processing by third-party AI providers), (b) performance of our contract with you (Terms of Service), and (c) our legitimate interests in operating, improving, and securing the App
- Automated Decision-Making: We use automated profiling to personalize your AI companion experience (see Section 7). You have the right to object to this profiling, request human intervention, and obtain an explanation of the profiling logic
- Data Transfers: Your data may be transferred to servers outside the EEA. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place for such transfers, including Standard Contractual Clauses where applicable
- Right to Lodge a Complaint: You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority

13. Children's Privacy
SoulMate AI is intended for users who are 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. Our App implements age verification at registration. If we discover that a user under 18 has provided personal information, we will promptly delete their account and all associated data. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal data, please contact us immediately at support@soulmate-ai.com.
14. International Data Transfers
Your information may be transferred to and maintained on servers located outside your country of residence, including the United States. By using the App, you consent to the transfer of your information to countries that may have different data protection laws. We take steps to ensure your data is treated securely and in accordance with this Privacy Policy regardless of where it is processed.
15. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy and, for material changes, providing an in-app notification. Your continued use of the App after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
